With over 25 years in Denver real estate, Jessica Northrop has seen a little bit of everything in the market. Growing her business and clientele through fierce determination and a passion for delivering results, Jessica joined Compass as a Founding Agent of the Denver office in 2019. Since then, she's ascended to the ranks of the #1 Individual Agent as Compass has also surpassed all of its competitors as the top brokerage in sales volume not just in Denver, but also in the United States.

Now, at the helm of The Northrop Group, Jessica leads her team and is at the forefront of the industry through her local success, national partnerships and knowledge of all things as they relate to Colorado real estate. She is the Denver specialist for the Compass Sports & Entertainment Division, the Compass Military Division, Founding Agent of the national REALM network of top agents and longtime partner of Giveback Homes to help provide homes for families in need locally and internationally.

Go behind the scenes and get to know more about Jessica below including why she got into real estate, her local Colorado favorites, funny moments from her career and the biggest keys to her success...

Why did you got into real estate and what do you love most?
I became a licensed Realtor at 18 years old. The thing I love about real estate is the challenge of each deal. No two deals are the same. Many times it feels like a puzzle and it’s my job to put it all together as quickly and seamlessly as possible. Nothing makes me happier than receiving a raving testimonial from a client. I am a problem solver and enjoy leading the challenging process of buying and selling real estate to a successful conclusion.

How much has real estate changed during your career?
When I first entered real estate we used paper contracts signed in person with the “pink copy” left for the client. The MLS was a black and white phone book that came out once a month with new inventory. Next came pagers, cell phones, blackberry, dial up internet, fax machines, emails, scanning machines, online contracts, DocuSign, websites, social media…but one thing that has never changed is the personal touch and client interface.

In a very digital world, the real estate process is still very personal. A home is very likely the largest investment most people make in their lifetime and there is a lot at stake. I take great pride in not only representing a client for one transaction. My goal is to earn their trust so I am their resource for life on all things real estate and someone they feel comfortable recommending to friends, family and co-workers. This approach has led to career-to-date sales of over $550 million and countless wonderful client relationships through the years.

What is the biggest key to your success?
Consistency, results-focused mindset, direct communication.

Most proud moment in your career?
My ongoing partnership with Giveback Homes and the lives we’ve been able to touch through that. Also the time my son’s friend stopped me at a high school football game, told me he followed me on Instagram, and asked to take a picture with me! LOL!

Any funny or embarrassing moments from your real estate career?
I fell off a porch when showing a home and face planted into the grass below. Also, I accidently called a client from the bathroom while yelling to my kids to bring me toilet paper!

How do you manage a work/life balance with your family?
I don’t. We work hard and play hard and just make it work. I’ve found the best approach is to integrate my family and kids into work.

Favorite local restaurant?
I love Sierra, La Loma, Steakhouse 10, Perdida, Hillstone, Cherry Creek Grill and Eddie V’s to name a few.

Favorite Colorado getaway?
Telluride – it’s magical!

Jessica led a group of colleagues and friends to the Manitou Incline, a 2744-step climb rising 2000 feet in elevation in Manitou Springs, Colorado.

What hobbies do you enjoy outside of work?
When the market was rough 2008-2010 I took up tennis and loved it! I started at 2.5 and advanced to 4.0 over a few years and just started playing pickle ball as well. We also enjoy hiking, biking (just got an ebike) and travel as much as we can.

Best concert you’ve ever attended?
Lionel Richie at Red Rocks!

What do you look for first in a home?
The first impression is from the street – the curb appeal and upkeep of front of the house but the most important is the smell of the home. You know it’s going to be a good home if you get a nice smell at the front door.

What is your best quality you bring to add value for your clients?
Systems: We want to make it look easy and in control at all times
Strategy: A unique and custom strategy for each deal
Negotiation: I aim to give our clients every advantage and deliver on their most important points. Every client is different.

I like to say, I’m the Olivia Pope of real estate – bring me your problem or issue and I will resolve it quickly, quietly, and correctly. :)
