July 11, 2024 - The Northrop Group
The members of The Northrop Group spent a sunny summer day in Denver doing what they’ve now done for nearly a decade: putting their efforts and their resources towards helping provide housing for a family in need. Every home that the team sells helps to build a home for a family in need – through monetary donations, community involvement, international trips and a local Denver build day in partnership with Habitat for Humanity.
“It’s important and it’s necessary as part of our vision of what this team is about,” Jessica Northrop says. “And even though we are doing it for others, we always walk away having had fun and coming together as a team as well so that’s just a bonus.”
Through the years, the build days have seen the team help with a variety of construction projects including fence installation, siding, painting, drywall and exterior yard projects. These projects have also taken the team internationally with multiple trips to Nicaragua and El Salvador. This year’s local project took place at 2143 S. Joliet Street in Aurora at a home in the earlier stages of construction as the team spent the majority of the day with hammers and nail guns in hand helping the home get through its framing stage. The home is set to be completed later this year and will serve as a beautiful new home to local family as part of Habitat’s mission to build and sell homes with an affordable mortgage to households with low to moderate income.
Habitat for Humanity co-founder Millard Fuller said, “For a community to be whole and healthy, it must be based on people's love and concern for each other.” That’s a motto we couldn’t agree with more and we have a goal of extending this partnership for many, many years to come.
Founded by affiliates in 1992, Habitat for Humanity of Colorado is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) whose purpose is to build the capacity of the 24 Habitat affiliates serving 45 Colorado communities by providing several essential services including: funding and financing, state-level advocacy, training and technical assistance, and disaster response coordination.
