The Northrop Group Builds a Home for a Family in Costa Rica

“We’re gifting dignity and we’re gifting friendship” as partnership with Giveback Homes continues

The children of the Perez family stand in front of their home before the renovation.

Maria and Magneri Perez live with their three children – Axel (17 years old), Aryelis (8 years old), and Saray (1 year old) – in Barranca, Costa Rica. Magneri works as a laborer in construction and Maria unfortunately just lost her job at a nearby hotel. Their previous home was in very poor condition. The walls were cracking, the roof was leaking onto the dirt floors, and the home was quickly corroding. They were also sharing the home with four other families, so they have never had their own bedrooms, kitchen or bathroom areas.

Enter Giveback Homes, along with partners Jessica Northrop and TECHO Costa Rica. Giveback Homes is dedicated to creating a sustainable relationship between real estate professionals while TECHO Costa Rica is a youth-led non-profit organization that develops housing and habitation solutions. Combined with a donation from Jessica Northrop and The Northrop Group, the Perez family now has a safe home to raise their family and look forward to a more hopeful future.

”I’m so grateful with everyone who gave me this house, with the people who help give me everything,” Maria Perez said. “I thank all of you and God because my dream of having a house came true. I cannot thank you enough for this.”

“We break the cycle of poverty, and that’s not just to build a house. The house or the community centers and the water solutions are just the beginning of the relationship with the community,” said Adrian Delli, one of the volunteers on the project. “These houses are just the start. We’re gifting dignity and we’re gifting friendship.”

“Thank you Giveback Homes and Jessica Northrop for joining us and let this be an invitation to build a fairer Costa Rica,” Alberto Salas, TECHO’s Regional Commercial Director added. “Nobody should live on the dirt floor.”

The Northrop Group is proud to help families in need through our real estate business by donating and volunteering our time with Giveback Homes, and every home we sell directly helps provide a home for someone in need. Throughout the past several years, the team has donated and built several homes locally and internationally for friends in need traveling as far as Nicaragua and El Salvador. In 2023, the team completed their seventh annual Denver Build Day and donated to help build two more homes in El Salvador.

This year’s annual Denver Build Day is scheduled for June 20th. You can help support our shared mission with Giveback Homes by donating to our build day at this link: https://donate.givebackhomes.com/campaign/jessica-northrop-group-build-day-2024/c590100
